Penumbra's 'The Tide of Years' Offers Engaging Time Travel Adventure
Penumbra's latest D20 adventure, 'The Tide of Years', immerses players in the lost empire of Lagueen, a realm that drew power from the Temporal Crystal. This spectral tale, crafted by A. J. McIntosh, offers high-quality content and enhanced graphics, doubling the material from previous adventures.
The adventure commences with the PCs encountering the ghostly form of Jonar, once an acolyte of Lagueen. Now seeking to rectify his past mistakes, he aims to retrieve a temporal shard to fuel ancient arcane machinery. The path to redemption lies beneath the lake, leading to the submerged city of Lagueen and the Temple of Ras'Tan, where the Temporal Crystal resides.
Lagueen's rise and fall are woven into the narrative. The empire harnessed the crystal's power to plunder inventions and cultural treasures from various eras. However, a traitorous acolyte, Jonar's former self, attempted to steal the crystal, triggering a landslide that submerged the city. Atlas Games has skillfully crafted this time travel theme, although some interior artwork seems askew from the text, leaving room for further exploration.
Restoring the Temporal Crystal to its rightful place may spawn an alternate dimension or alter the PCs' own world. 'The Tide of Years' promises an engaging adventure with new monsters, a new deity, and improved production values. Penumbra, now a leading producer of D20 supplements, continues to push boundaries with each release, making this a must-play for any adventuring party.
