Enterprise leaders adjust strategies as artificial intelligence integration transition from trials to regular business operations: Findings from Infosys Study
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making significant strides in automating business processes across various sectors, according to a recent survey commissioned by Infosys and conducted by Branded Research Inc. The study involved C-level managers and IT decision-makers from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia.
The leading industries using AI include retail and consumer packaged goods (CPG), telecom and communication service providers, banking and insurance. An impressive 86% of organizations surveyed are already deploying AI, with 66% initially using it to automate routine or inefficient processes.
AI is not only transforming traditional roles but also creating new ones. A promising 77% of respondents are confident that employees in their organization can be trained for the new job roles AI technologies will create. Training and recruitment are the top areas of investment for AI technologies to make an impact.
The survey reveals that AI is beginning to have a growing impact on marketing and communications (32%), human resources (29%), and legal departments (15%). In fact, 53% of all respondents believe their industry has already experienced disruption due to AI.
C-level executives widely agree that AI technologies will have a positive effect on their workforce (70%), benefit customers (45%), and employees (43%). However, 70% of these executives are also concerned about industry regulations affecting their AI technology use.
Data management is a key focus area for IT decision-makers, with 77% investing in this area. Interestingly, 95% of IT decision makers from organizations in the late stages of digital transformation plan to have a dedicated team of AI professionals.
The survey also highlights that AI is not just about replacing human roles; it's about augmenting human skills to make people better at their work. 48% of respondents cite that AI has done just that, making for better employees by freeing up their time for higher value work.
However, 49% of IT decision makers report that their organization is unable to deploy desired AI technologies due to unready data. This underscores the importance of data readiness in the successful implementation of AI.
The survey also addressed concerns about job displacement. While 80% of respondents with measurable AI benefits agree their organization has a defined strategy for deployment, 69% of employees within organizations are concerned AI technologies will replace them. It's worth noting that IT (61%) will continue to be the most affected job function over the next five years due to AI.
In terms of ROI, the survey found that 42% of the United Kingdom, 40% of Germany, and 33% of France have realized direct, tangible results from AI technologies compared to 75% in India, 71% in the United States, and 61% in China.
In conclusion, the survey provides valuable insights into the current and future impact of AI on various industries. As AI continues to evolve, it's essential for organizations to develop strategies that leverage AI's potential while addressing concerns about job displacement and data readiness.
